The Tibetan calculator returns the Year of the Water Hare for October 28, 2023, counted from Losar.
That can differ from the Chinese year, which is the Year of the Water Rabbit for this date.
How we calculate
Tibetan birth-year animal uses a twelve-year cycle with Wood, Fire, Earth, Iron, or Water. The animal changes at Losar (Tibetan New Year), not January 1. We use Losar date tables for late-winter births.
Full Tibetan charts can also include mewa numbers and weekday deities. This tool sticks to the birth-year animal you see on the home reader.

Losar year animal, not January first
Do not go by your passport year alone if you were born in late winter. Losar (Tibetan New Year) is when the animal changes. That is often February or March, not January 1. Until Losar, you might still count as last year's animal. We use Losar date tables so late-winter births are not a guess.
Iron, not Metal: and only one layer
Popular Tibetan summaries use five elements, including Iron (not Metal). Full charts can also talk about mewa numbers and weekday deities. This tool sticks to the birth-year animal so beginners are not overwhelmed.

If I am 33, what is my Tibetan animal?
Age is not enough. Two people who are 33 can have different Tibetan animals. Enter your full birthdate in the calculator on this page. The animal year changes at Losar (Tibetan New Year), often in February or March, not on January 1.
Which Tibetan zodiac sign am I?
Use your full birthdate. The animal changes at Losar (Tibetan New Year), not January 1. Late-winter birthdays can still belong to the previous year.
Is Tibetan zodiac the same as Chinese zodiac?
Related but not the same. Both use twelve-year animal cycles and five-element colors. Losar dates, Iron instead of Metal, and fuller Tibetan charts still differ from Sheng Xiao (Chinese year animal) alone.
Do I need birth time?
No for the birth-year animal. Time and place matter for deeper Tibetan charts, not this simplified Losar animal snapshot.
Is this a Tibetan birth chart?
No. It names your Losar birth-year animal and element. Fuller Tibetan work can include mewa numbers, parkha trigrams, and weekday deities. Those need trained reading. This tool does not do that.
Is this a monastic astrology reading?
No. It is an education snapshot aligned with our seven-tradition reader, not a monastic ritual reading.
