Chinese gemstones and birthstones

Chinese zodiac gift guides often suggest a lucky stone for each animal year. Garnet for Rat, jade for many animals, and so on. Lists change by shop and region, especially around lunar new year.

Your birth year's five-element color (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) can change which stone a shop recommends. This is folk gift culture. It is not a rule about jade's long history in art and religion.
