Tropical zodiac
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
A tropical zodiac sign is a Western sign tied to the seasons. The twelve signs start at the March equinox (0 degrees Aries). They track the solar year, not fixed star clusters.
Western sun-sign columns, birth charts in most English-language apps, and our Western card use this frame.

The tropical zodiac ties signs to the seasons. On February 28, 2021 the tropical sun sign is Pisces.
Tropical Aries starts near the March equinox. It does not stay locked to the same stars.

Fixed stars drift
Because equinox points precess, tropical signs slowly slide against the star background over centuries. That gap is why sidereal signs differ.
