Rashi
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
In Jyotish, a rashi is one of twelve sidereal signs along the ecliptic. When people say Vedic moon sign, they usually mean the rashi the Moon occupied at birth.
Rashis share names with Western signs (Aries through Pisces) but use star-backed positions with an ayanamsa correction, so labels can differ from tropical horoscopes.
Rashi vs nakshatra
Each rashi spans 30 degrees. Nakshatras subdivide that space into 27 lunar mansions. Our Vedic card shows both when birth time helps locate the Moon.
