Western signs group by modality (also quadruplicity): cardinal signs start seasons, fixed signs stabilize, mutable signs transition.
Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are cardinal. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are fixed. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are mutable.
