Mewa
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
Mewa (sme ba) refers to nine numbers arranged in a magic square. Each has elemental and color links in Tibetan astrological texts.
Alongside your Losar animal and element, mewa adds another layer in full Tibetan charts. Popular apps sometimes show a birth number from the year.
Example: see it on a birth date
Tibetan mewa numbers belong to the Losar year system. November 28, 2021 falls in the Year of the Iron Ox.
The animal year is not the mewa number. This page explains the number tradition. The sample date shows which animal year we would start from.

On our Tibetan card
We highlight animal and element from Losar tables. Deeper mewa and parkha math lives in dedicated Tibetan references beyond this glossary.
