Losar marks the start of the Tibetan lunar year. Birth-year animals in Tibetan astrology change at Losar, not on January 1.
Losar often falls near Chinese Lunar New Year. It is not always the same day. Our Tibetan card uses Losar date tables for late-winter births.

Losar is the Tibetan new year. It is not Chinese Lunar New Year. The Chinese year for this date is the Year of the Metal Rat.
