Lahiri ayanamsa
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
Western tropical astrology anchors signs to seasons. Vedic Jyotish uses a sidereal zodiac tied to fixed stars, adjusted by ayanamsa, the gap between tropical and sidereal zero points.
Lahiri ayanamsa is the most common official choice in modern Indian ephemerides. Our Vedic Moon and Lagna math uses it.
Practical effect
The same birth date can fall in Libra tropically and Virgo sidereally, or similar overlaps. The names sound familiar; the sky positions differ by roughly 24 degrees.
