Day-soul (Kra)
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
In Akan naming, the day of the week you were born links to a day-soul (kra) with a traditional name. Kwasi is for Sunday-born males. Akosua is for Sunday-born females. Other weekdays have their own pairs.
Our Akan card uses the weekday of your Gregorian birth date. Births right at midnight may differ in family custom.
Example: see it on a birth date
June 18, 2020 is a Thursday. The Akan day names for that weekday are Yaw and Yaa.
A day-soul follows the weekday of birth. It does not follow the sun sign.
Enter your own date on the Zodiac Sign Calculator.
Cultural respect
Day names carry living cultural weight in Ghana and the diaspora.
