Ascendant
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
The ascendant, also called the rising sign, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at your exact birth time and location.
It changes about every two hours at a given latitude. Without birth time, any rising sign guess is unreliable.
Example: see it on a birth date
The ascendant is another name for the rising sign. September 28, 2020 alone cannot place it.
You need a birth time and place. The sun sign that day is still Libra.
Enter your own date on the Zodiac Sign Calculator.
Western vs Indian Vedic label
Western rising signs use the tropical zodiac. Indian Vedic Lagna uses sidereal positions. Same idea (horizon sign). Different measuring frame.
