Ascendant
Glossary · Last updated: 2026-07-26
The ascendant, also called the rising sign, is the zodiac sign that was ascending on the eastern horizon at your exact birth time and location.
It changes roughly every two hours at a given latitude. Without birth time, any rising sign guess is unreliable.
Western vs Vedic label
Western rising signs use the tropical zodiac. Vedic Lagna uses sidereal positions. Same concept (horizon sign), different measurement frame.
